Christmas arrived a little early for teachers in the Cass City School District.
After working without a contract since mid August, a tentative agreement was reached in November.
The board of education approved the contract nine days before Christmas on Dec. 16.
The contract for the teachers was for three years, according to Superintendent Allison Zimba.
During the first year of the contract, teachers will receive a 5 percent pay increase. For the second year, the pay increase will be 2.25 percent, and 2.25 percent for the third year.
The district has 56 teachers.
Information on the settlement was delayed because of the holiday break so school wasn't in session.
In other district matters, Cass City's Board of Education did and evaluation of Superintendent Zimba, which they are required to do each year under Michigan's Department of Education regulations.
The board gave her a rating of "effective," which is the second highest ranking that can be given.
The evaluation process takes in several factors and complicated regulations. After reviewing an administrator's performance, the board assigns the administrator with a rating of: highly effective, effective, minimally effective or ineffective.
Under the state's department of education regulations, teachers and administrators have to be graded and/or evaluated each year.
State law requires each school's board of education and each intermediate school district's board of education to do a performance evaluation on administrators.
