The December meeting of the Ubly Village Council started with a public hearing on the proposed five-year parks and recreation master plan, which was adopted later during the council meeting that followed the public hearing.

A park and recreation master plan is similar to a community's master plan in that it is a guideline on how village leaders plan upgrades and recreational opportunities should be done.

The first action during the meeting was making an appointment to the open council seat. Letters of interest on the open position were submitted by Sara Schmidt and Brian Rockerfeller.

The council appointed Schmidt to the open position. She will serve until the November election in 2026.

Village Clerk Barb Butch administered the oath of office to her, and she took her seat at the table.

The clerk also reported she received a message from Lyn Drake, who represents manufacturing and the Ubly area on the Economic Development Corporation (EDC), that expressed concerns that Ubly is not responding to potential available funds.

The letter said she would like to see someone on the council contact the EDC and set up a meeting. After discussion, Trustee Jeff Rubin volunteered to do that.

Also, a request by a village resident was reported to the board that he would like to see if a snow fence could be installed on the West side of Pike Street due to the large amount of blowing snow his property gets each year.

After discussion, it was recommended he contact the Ubly Community School Board because the fence would be on their property.
