During Lapeer County's organizational meeting on Thursday, the seven county commissioners selected a chair and vice chair.
District #2 Commissioner Gary Howell was selected as chair, and District #4 Commissioner Brad Haggadone was elected vice chair.
Howell represents the North Branch area and the northern third of Lapeer County. Haggadone represents the City of Lapeer and portions of Oregon and Mayfield townships.
Howell was recognized in November by the State Bar Association of Michigan for his 50 years of being an attorney.
The board decided commission meetings will continue to meet at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in 2025.
Both men were reelected to second terms during the November 2024 general election.
A county board of commissioners is the chief policy and legislative body of a county's government.
Due to a change in state law, county commissioners will not serve four-year terms instead of for two years as had been the norm since the state changed from a board of township supervisors, which represented each township, to a board of commissioners to serve designated districts of the county.
