As 2024 drew to a close, Elkton Village council departments reported some accomplishments at the December meeting.
DPW Superintendent Lonnie Schulz reported the construction of West McKinley Street has been completed, and the paving in the park was started, but it will have to wait to be completed in the spring due to winter weather.
According to Police Chief Scott Jobes, complaints continue to be higher. For this year, the department handled 683 complaints, which is up from last year's total of 659 complaints.
Jobes also noted that he has been busy with taking his continuing education credits online.
Ambulance Coordinator Beth Swartzendruber reported it has been a busy month for the ambulance service also.
She explained there were 33 ambiance runs in November with 20 of them billable. There are five calls for a lift assist, and some bogus calls came in with no patient to be found that needed assistance.
She also reported that Huron County Commissioners approved giving the ambulance service $20,728 to purchase a LUCAS machine that does CPR commissions automatically.
Beside the generous donation from the county commissioners, the LUCAS machine costs more than that. Per the current pricing of the machine it costs $796 more than anticipated.
There was a brief discussion about funding the remainder of the cost, but no action was taken.
