The Cass City School District once again has a resource officer at the school.
School Resource Officer (SRO) Ashley Coleman is now working in the district. There was a gap of a few weeks between when the 2024-2025 academic year stated and when Coleman was able to start.
The previous officer left the department shortly before classes started for the school year, which left the school without a resource officer for a few weeks.
The Cass City Police Department hired Coleman a new, full-time police officer for the department, and to be the SRO as well.
She comes to the Cass City community after spending 10 years with the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office.
She is also a graduate of Cass City School District.
Coleman and the district's therapy dog, CeeCee, will be patrolling the Red Hawk hallways providing security and comfort for students.
CeeCee is a black Labrador retriever the district has had on board for about a year. Schools use therapy dogs to interact with students.
The Department of Education determined the presence of a therapy dog in schools is beneficial in comforting students so a number of therapy dogs, like CeeCee, have been put into service in schools the last few decades.
