Getting around in Sanilac County will be a little easier.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the partial opening of M-46 while construction work continues.
Rebuilding the intersection of M-46 and Maple Valley/Dawson Street is underway.
At this stage of the project, M-46 will be reopened between Maple Valley and Delaware Streets, but the approaches to the Maple Valley/Dawson Street intersection will be closed for rebuilding.
As that is done, M-46 through-traffic will be maintained with temporary traffic signals during the work.
Dawson Street traffic will be detoured via M-46, N. Elk Street and Argyle Street.
And, Maple Valley Street traffic will be detoured via M-46, M-19 and Speaker Street.
And, as work continues along M-19, northbound M-19 traffic will be detoured via Miller Road, Campbell Road and M-46. Southbound traffic will remain on M-19.
That is not the only work that will be done to that section of highway.
In 2025, MDOT will be resurfacing M-46 from the Sandusky east city limits to the Carsonville on west to the village limit and will replace the M-46 bridge over the Black River.
