A 41-year-old woman from Bad Axe pleaded guilty regarding shooting at a building in July.
Jody L. Tibbits pleaded guilty to: one count of discharge of a firearm in or at a building, which is a felony with punishment of up to 10 years prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000; to one count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, which is a felony punishable by up to five years prison and/or a $2,500 fine; and to one count of carrying a concealed weapon, which is a felony that carries up to five years prison sentence and/or a $2,500 fine.
For her plea to those charges, the Huron County prosecutor's office approved not filing any further charges against her.
As part of the plea deal, Tibbits had to turn over the gun used in the incident, and she had to testify against others who were involved in the shooting incident, and she had to pay restitution for the damage that was done. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 25.
The charges against Tibbits stem from when the Bad Axe Police Department responded on July 13 at about 1:45 p.m. to a shooting on the 300 block of Silver Street where several rounds were reportedly fired from a semiautomatic gun into a home that was occupied at the time. No injuries were reported.
Because the incident was captured on security cameras, officers from the Bad Axe Police Department, Huron County Sheriff Deputies, and the St. Clair County's SWAT team did a search of two residents.
As a result of that, Tibbits was arrested as was Demondre A. Williams, 27, of Bad Axe.
According to the police report, the shooting incident was the result of an alleged disagreement. Tibbits drove the vehicle used in the incident and according to the report, Williams' gun was used to do the shooting.
As a result of that, Williams is charged with one count of discharging a firearm at a building carrying, a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and carrying a concealed weapon, all of which are felonies.
