Due to limited financial resources, the village of Owendale has applied for a variety of grants to help pay for some upgrades.
Village Clerk Randy Howard provided an update to the council on grants that have been applied for. According to Howard, the estimates for the water meter replacement project total approximately $85,000 of a total grant amount of $100,000.
He explained he will contact the department of treasury to determine whether any unused grant money can be used for the purchase of back-up meters or other related purchases. He also reported the estimates on the well, and pump-house grant of $110,000 are a little over the grant amount, at $112,500.
Because of that, the village will look into different options for the new pump-house to help bring costs down to grant limits.
During the meeting, Howard reported that Fleis and Vandenbrink, which is the engineering firm coordinating the sewer lagoon repair project, has requested payment for services of $25,900.
He said he will call Fleis and Vandenbrink to remind them they offered to coordinate the project with the understanding that the village will use them for the total engineering of the project, and there will not be a payment until the proceeds of the loan are received.
Regarding other money matters, it was reported there are grants available from the county for repaving Main and Fourth streets which take three years to complete, so the village should look into the process well in advance of needed funding for any street projects. Also, spending $165 to buy a pole saw for the DPW was approved.
