Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) awarded $64.6 million in "MI Clean Water Grants," which included villages in the Thumb, to help Michigan communities upgrade water infrastructure, protect health and the environment.

Under the Technical, Managerial, and Financial program, the village of Kingston received a $370,000 grant, and the village of North Branch received a $368,000 grant.

Under the clean water program grants were awarded to the various aspects of accomplishing developing clean water. Affordability and Planning Grants were given to the city of Saginaw which received $500,000.

The MI Clean Water Plan grants through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) and support from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) aim to help communities upgrade aging infrastructure, ensure healthy drinking water, and protect Michigan's environment.
