State lawmakers in Lansing are advancing a proposal aimed at protecting cash payment options for Michigan residents.

Republican Representative Joseph Pavlov has backed legislation that would require all state agencies to accept cash payments. The measure would also ban any extra fees for those choosing to pay with cash instead of digital or card methods.

Supporters say the plan is designed to ensure access to government services for residents who may not use banks or electronic payments. Pavlov says the move is about maintaining fairness and removing barriers for people handling everyday responsibilities with the state.

The bill has cleared the Michigan House and is now headed to the Senate for further review.
