Firefighter first responders with licensure are required to complete continuing education courses.
There is a company that offers online courses and tracks credits for $159 per year, explained Sigel Township Trustee Joel Kiehl.
To make sure the program is what is required for licensing, Kiehl signed up for the program. He will review it to determine if it will be beneficial for all licensed responders.
Kiehl also went on to note that seven sets of turnout gear are expiring and will need to be replaced this year. The estimated cost is expected to be around $14,000.
In other fire department matters, the annual pay schedule was approved.
The fire chief will be paid $5,000, and the assistant chief will be paid $1,750.
The training officer salary will be $1,350, and the battalion chief will be paid $400.
The pay for attending a fire meeting will be $50, the pay for responding to a fire call will be $50 per honor.
Fire calls that go over four hours will be paid and additional $50.
In other pay related matters, the pay for board of review members and the pay for election workers was set.
Board of review members and election workers will be paid $22.50 as well as being paid .72 per mile traveled.
During the meeting, it was noted there has been an inquiry about purchasing 600 to 1,000 continuous acres to build a data center in the township.
The board also approved for the annual board meeting to be on Monday, March 23, at 6:00 p.m.
