FISHING REPORT

HERE IS A CHECK ON THE LATEST FISHING CONDITIONS AROUND THE THUMB:

CAPTAIN MIKE MORGAN FROM M & D MARINE AND SAND PIPER CHARTERS IN PORT AUSTIN SAID CATCH AND RELEASE BASS FISHING REMAINS GOOD IN BIRD CREEK AND OFF THE BREAK WALL, CASTING WITH JIGS, SPINNER TAILS, GRUBS AND MOSTLY SOFT PLASTIC BAITS. A FEW PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TAKING SOME WALLEYE OFF THE PORT AUSTIN BREAKWALL AT NIGHT USING BOMBERS AND CRANK BAITS. SOME KING SALMON AND COHO HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN 25 TO 40 FEET OF WATER IN FRONT OF PORT AUSTIN, TROLLING WITH BOMBERS AND STICK BAITS, OCCASIONALLY PICKING UP A WALLEYE OR TWO IN THE PROCESS.

JANCIE DEATON FOR OFFSHORE MARINA, HARBOR BEACH MUNICIPAL MARINA AND J-LYN CHARTERS TOLD US SALMON FISHING IS GOOD. TRY GRAY, BLUE, GREEN AND ORANGE COLORED SPOONS ON TWO, FIVE AND TEN COLORED LEAD LINES OR OFF DOWNRIGGERS. FISH 40 TO 60 FEET OF WATER FIRST THING IN THE MORNING THEN MOVE OUT TO DEEPER WATER AFTER THE SUN COMES UP. STEEL HEAD ARE BEING TAKEN UP CLOSE TO THE TOP ON SPOONS.   BROWN TROUT ARE IN CLOSER TO SHORE, TRY 20 TO 30 FEET OF WATER USING LONG LINES WITH BODY BAITS AND SPOONS. BRIGHT COLORS ARE WORKING BEST. LAKE TROUT ARE MIXED IN WITH SALMON AND ALSO ON THE BOTTOM IN DEEPER WATER. TRY SPOONS AND DODGERS OR DODGERS WITH SPIN AND GLOWS.   SOME WALLEYE CONTINUE TO BE TAKEN OFF THE BREAK WALL AND IN CLOSE TO SHORE. SMALL BODY BAITS ARE WORKING OR TRY A CRAWLER HARNESS.   JANICE SAYS THERE'S PLENTY OF WATER TO LAUNCH YOUR BOAT AND GET OUT FOR SOME FISHING.
