STUDENTS ARE COMING FROM NEAR AND FAR TO THE GAGETOWN AREA AS THE THUMB OCTAGON BARN IS HAVING A SPECIAL STUDENT PROGRAM THIS WEEK. VOLUNTEER ORGANIZERS TOLD US BESIDES LOCAL DISTRICTS, LIKE U.S.A. AND LAKERS, THEY ARE ALSO DRAWING STUDENTS FROM BAY CITY, PORT SANILAC AND EVEN AS FAR AS WHITMORE LAKE NEAR ANN ARBOR. THEY EXPECT AS MANY AS 11 HUNDRED STUDENTS THIS WEEK TO ATTEND. BESIDES THE OCTAGON BARN ITSELF THEY ARE SEEING WORKING DEMONSTRATIONS OF THE SAWMILL, MAPLE SUGAR PROCESSING, THE AUTHENTICALLY FURNISHED PURDY HOUSE AND MORE. THE SITE ALSO HAS A SCHOOL HOUSE BROUGHT FROM THE SEBEWAING AREA, A CIDER PRESS, GRAIN MILL, BLACKSMITH SHOP AND MANY ANTIQUE VEHICLES AND MACHINES. FOR THE SPECIAL EVENT FOR STUDENTS, AROUND 70 VOLUNTEERS ARE WORKING ON THE TOURS.   JUST A REMINDER THAT THE OCTAGON BARN IS NOW OPEN DAILY FROM 9AM UNTIL 6PM UNTIL OCTOBER. IF YOU WONDERING ABOUT WHAT THE KIDS ARE SEEING THIS WEEK, A VIDEO SLIDESHOW PRESENTATION IS AVAILABLE ON OUR WEB SITE, THUMB NET DOT NET, UNDER THE WRITTEN NEWS STORY.
