Divine Intervention may be one way to describe the Food Resource Bank which incorporates farmers of all Christian denominations to rally their harvest towards relief and aide to areas in the world unable to do the same for themselves.

Each year around 300,000 people globally are aided in becoming more food secure and that is thanks to the twelve or fourteen Food Resource Bank farmers like in Huron County.

Between these family farm operations 350 acres of crop are sold to local businesses, private donors and others in order to give back to the developing or impoverished world.

Mike Richmond first heard about the organization from St. Francis Catholic Church's Sister Theresa who had asked to join a meeting for the organization. Before the meeting even finished Mike had become a member of the board and from there was able to recruit additional farmers from many different churches in the community.

The donations are only made possible through local donors who actually buy the produce and rent the acreage. In 2016, the cost of production was around $5.

"We're still giving at a very, very impressive pace due to our community supporting us," Richmond shared. "Through what we call Support-an-Acre, donations are going towards the rent of an acre so we can grow crops on it."

Much like an average farm crop is planted in the late summer, harvested before winter and then the cycle is planned for the following year. With this group it is no different, but the crop is not kept for profit on these dedicated acres but sold to the donors for money that will not be profiting the local farmers, rather changing the course of a life for someone in need and someone they do not know.

"Some people want to see you help local projects, but you know, this project helps everybody in need. I think that's what's pretty satisfying," Richmond added.

Anyone who wishes to be involved just as to integrate themelves into the group and help grow the effort for a self-sustaining world.
