There was plenty of hearsay to go around at the Elkton Labor Committee Hearing Monday evening at the Municipal Building.

A special meeting was called Monday for the Labor Committee to discuss the conduct of Elkton Police Chief Scott Jobes as he has received several write-ups and other discrepancies from the committee.

Committee consisting of Jeff Zarnke, Randy Haley, and Gail Brown ran the meeting with of the time spent being on communications efforts being improved between committee and its employees, such as Jobes. First, committee requested a system that would make documenting overtime and its purpose much "easier."

Write ups were mentioned on behalf of Randy Haley, where there was "an issue of blight" in the community. Jobes was accused of not enforcing the issue of "blight" in the community and was chastised for the issue. There was also an issue of "verbal" warning for disrespect towards committee member, Agnes Kosinski.

In addition, Haley mentioned that he wanted to write-up Jobes for his spreading of rumors about closing down the Elkton Police Department. Jobes denied those accusations and retaliated making a claim that Haley had made similar comments to other community members.

Chief Jobes told us that the write ups that were discussed at the meeting were thrown out, which was verified by village officials this morning. That means they will not go on to the full council for consideration.

Following the committee business was public discussion where tables were turned onto President Haley for his actions in the case of Jobes. After discussion it was found that Haley had been making decisions on behalf of the village for grant funding towards a new law enforcement vehicle.

After much discussion over Haley withdrawing from grants through Frankenmuth Credit Union and the USDA the community was left hanging in the balance at 7 p.m.

The next regular meeting will be August 14th at 7 p.m. and another hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17th also at the Municipal Building.

A video of the meeting may be viewed as part of the article.
