5 fire departments were called out Tuesday morning to a house fire in the Mud Creek area of western Huron County. Caseville Fire Department Chief Ben Willenberg said they were called to the Joseph Karle residence at 8611 Birmingham Road, just off of M-25 north of Filion Road. No one was home when firemen arrived. They found heavy smoke coming up from the east end of the house, and then flames started coming out a window in the upper level of the 2 story, wood frame house. The interior of the house was destroyed and the second floor collapsed. The attached garage was spared from most of the damage. A dog and cat were able to get out of the home, but another small cat was lost. Firemen were called out at 7:34 Tuesday morning and were on the scene until just after 12 noon. There was no dollar estimate of the damage, but the home was insured. Caseville firemen were assisted by the Winsor, Fairhaven, Sebewaing and Elkton - Oliver Fire Departments. M-25 at that location was closed for serveral hours by Huron County SHeriffs deputies and Caseville Police. Scheurer Ambulance also stood by at the scene.
