The Huron Conservation District is proud to recognize local farms that have gone above and beyond in environmental stewardship through the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). This completely voluntary, confidental program helps farms comply with state and federal regulations, while promoting sustainable practices.
Farms can earn MAEP verification in four different categories, being: cropping, farmstead, livestock, and forest, wetland, and habitat (FWH). Achieving all four is quite rare, however, as only 50 farms statewide have done so. Huron County's own Osminski Farms of Bad Axe and Murray Farms of Ubly are the first in the county to do so. The three generation family operation, Osminski Farms, produces crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans and alfalfa. Murray Farms, on the otherhand, focuses on their successful cow-calf operation producting high quality livestock.

Since 2002, Huron County has had 137 verified farms, totaling 210 initial and 226 repeat verifications. A total of 7,084 verifications have been completed statewide as of 2024. MAEAP-certified farms benefit from regulatory protections, cost sharing opportunities and even things such as liability insurance discounts. By achieving this certification, Osminski and Murray farms have set an example for sustainable and responsible farming in our county and state.
