Michigan residents are being warned by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and Attorney General Dana Nessel to watch out for fraudulent social media accounts and websites seeking personal information.

Lisa Kemmis, MSHDA's Rental Assistance and Homeless Solutions director, revealed reports of a non-government entity misusing the "Michigan Housing Development Authority" name and logo to promote counterfeit housing voucher programs. The scammers also employ the names of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and fair housing logos in their schemes.

For authentic information on MSHDA's open waiting lists, visit the MSHDA website or contact their Lansing office by email at MSHDA-RAHS@michigan.gov, or call at 517-241-0809. Attorney General Nessel urged residents to stay informed about such scams and report any suspicious activities to her Consumer Protection Team.

If you suspect you've been scammed, file a police report and contact the Michigan Department of Attorney General Consumer Protection Team via P.O. Box 30213, Lansing, MI 48909; or fax 517-335-7599, call toll-free 877-765-8388, or file an online complaint form. Stay vigilant against these fraudulent schemes and protect your personal information.
