Icy roads got the better of another couple of drivers here in the Thumb. On the morning of Saturday, January 21, 2023 a 38-year-old Sebewaing man was driving on Hartsell Road, approaching the intersection of Eby Road in Oliver Twp. According to the responding deputy's report, road conditions were icy at the time.
According to a report from the Huron County Sheriff's Office, the man told the responding deputy that the Dodge Journey he was driving malfunctioned, not allowing him to use his brakes and turn the vehicle. The vehicle needed to be towed out of a ditch, but the man was not injured.
Another incident occurred on the same morning in Ubly, where an Ubly woman lost control of her Jeep Cherokee while driving south on Washington St. The vehicle smacked into a light pole, damaging her vehicle on the front right side. From the staff here at Thumb Broadcasting, be on the lookout for black ice this winter and stay safe. Weather has been relatively mild this winter, but a storm is expected to worsen road conditions today (Wednesday) with 6-8 inches of snow.
