The City of Caseville completed the purchase of the former riverside Marina property, adjacent to the city marina with the help of the DNR. City Clerk Jamie Learman said the grant funding through the DNR Trust Fund, approved by the legislature and signed by the governor will have the DNR paying approximately 74 percent of the cost. The city will be responsible for the remaining, along with closing costs and the appraisal, which he said would be somewhere between 80 to 90 thousand dollars. The property will be used for recreational purposes as park property, and will eventually have an additional launch ramp added for the city marina. There are also plans for other amenities, such as a pavilion in grant applications made earlier this year for funding for its development from the state which was pending the purchase. Learman said they are hoping to get approval for the development funding next year, but they have been lucky with the breakwall development and other projects and may end up lower on the list for funding. It's hoped that the DNR will want the property purchased to be developed and not sit idle. The purchase was made prior to October first, the state's new fiscal year.
