After months of being stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the addition to the Columbia Township Library is moving towards completion.
"General construction of the library is continuing progress with completion of wallpaper, some finished carpentry and organized storage rooms and much more," explained township Clerk Christine Kolar.
And, in preparation for opening, materials have been moved to the new area of the library.
Boesch Builders was hired to build the 4,370 foot addition using the vacant lot on the North side of the library as well as doing renovation to some areas of the library.
The renovation and expansion will allow for a dedicated children's area, more space for the library's collection to grow and expand, and an entertainment area that will serve the public as a type of living room open to all as well as a hub for community activity with a room that can also be rented.
The $1,176,563 construction and renovation project will also give the township a dedicated office area, more room to hold elections, and an audience area for public meetings.
Currently, the township meets in a small room in the library.
The next step will be considering possible names for the expansion.
In other library matters, Director Briynne McCrea will provide books to Unionville - Sebewaing Area School District children by setting up a classroom card that would allow checkout of e-books. McCrea also offered to drive out requested printed books to the school.
