During this mornings virtual meeting of the Tuscola County Commissioners, Ann Hepfer, who is the health officer for the Huron County Health Department, and for the Tuscola County Health Department, delivered some breaking news.
"Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed executive order 2020-96 to reopen retail businesses and auto dealerships," said Hepfer, during the public comment section of the meeting. "They can do business appointment statewide on Tuesday, May 26."
The new order is part of Whitmer's "Michigan Safe Start Plan."
"The governor's executive order also lifts the requirement that health care providers delay some nonessential medical, dental, and veterinary procedures statewide beginning on Friday, May 29," explained Hepfer, noting "the order also allows gatherings of 10 people or less starting immediately, as long as participants practice social distancing."
Whitmer noted data shows Michigan is ready to phase in these sectors in the economy. However, she also urged that everyone must stay vigilant in protecting against spreading COVID-19.
And, Hepfer announced additional testing will be done in Tuscola County in the afternoon and in the evening.
There will be testing in the health department's parking lot that is off M-24 from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., on May 28.
According to the Michigan Department Health and Human Services' last report on Wednesday, Tuscola County has 174 cases with 22 deaths, and Huron County's numbers remain steady with 41 cases with 1 death.
