The Life Story Of A Local Author Is Headed To The Big Screen

A Cass City author's personal story of addiction, faith and second chances is making the jump from the page to film.
Danny Haag's book, God Can Use Others to Save You, recounts his struggle with alcohol as a teenager and the influence his future wife Shirley's Christian faith had on his life. Haag says a frightening night while serving in the military became his turning point, leading him to quit drinking and recommit his life to his faith.
Haag originally began writing the story as a testimony for his children and grandchildren, never expecting it to become a published book, much less a movie. The film project began after a man helping Haag develop his website read the book and suggested adapting it for the screen.
The movie, titled Shirley, was filmed in Michigan's Thumb and is now in post-production. Haag says the goal is to enter film festivals in 2027, with plans eventually calling for a red-carpet showing at Cass Theatre in Cass City.
