The 4th of July Holiday Weekend proved to be a busy one, with good weather and plenty of people in the Thumb to enjoy it. Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson passed along the high lights compiled by Huron Central Dispatch Director Randy Miller and himself:

County Wide

613 - Total calls for service to law enforcement, fire and ambulance
384 - Were to law enforcement
12 - Were for fire agencies
66 - Were to ambulances services
151 - Were to misc. gov. entities such as DPWs, Coast Guard, State Police and others
8292 - Dispatch radio transmissions
1800 - Phone calls that came in to Central Dispatch (257 to 9-1-1)

Sheriff's Office Specifics

239 - Calls for service
17 - People booked into our jail
5 - Personal injury accidents
12 - Property damage accidents
10 - Car/deer accidents
68 - Traffic stops
27- Traffic tickets
28 - Marine tickets (17 no life jackets on a kayak)
6 - Marine related calls for service which included reckless boaters, search and rescue and recovery of a stolen 18' boat.

Hanson noted that although the county remained very populated during the 4-day period, unsettled weather conditions kept beach and boating traffic to a minimum from the evening of the 5th and on. With the passing of rain and thunderstorms on the 5th, cool and moderate breezes from the north and east followed making water activities not all that favorable.
