The focus for Owen-Gage's students of the month for February is being an "Effective Communicator". A student who is an effective communicator speaks, reads, writes, and listens effectively. He/she also uses numbers effectively and uses effective non-verbal language. The following students have been chosen: Axton Hellebuyck, third grade (elementary level), son of Anthony and Ashley Hellebuyck; Conner Snear, eighth grade (junior high level), son of Laura Snear: Emily Schultz, ninth grade (high school level), daughter of Christy Schultz and Josh Lesoski and Jason Schultz; and Madyson Menzel, twelfth grade (senior student), daughter of John and Christina Engelhardt.
Special recognition goes to the "Senior Student of the Month", Madyson Menzel (right). As a freshman, Menzel participated in volleyball, track, and Future Farmers of America at Laker High School. At Owen-Gage, she played volleyball her sophomore year and was a member of the Innovative Vehicle Design team. She also was on the prom committee as a junior. She's a member of the yearbook staff this year.
Menzel served as her class president the past two years, and therefore, has been a member of the student council those years. Menzel was a snowball representative her sophomore year, and she was a queen candidate for both homecoming and snowball this year. She's been on the honor roll the past three years and is a member of the 3.0 Honors Club this year. Menzel has attended the Huron Area Technical Center enrolled in the health science program the past two years. Through this program, she has been a member of the Huron Health Science Advisory Committee and a member of Future Health Professionals (H.O.S.A.) the past two years.
Menzel is the daughter of John and Christina Engelhardt of Owendale. She plans on attending Saginaw Valley State University in the fall and pursue a career as a nurse practitioner.
