Lapeer County Sheriff Scott McKenna says that the Lapeer County Sheriff Office had a busy but safe 4th of July holiday weekend. Both the Marine Division and Dive Team were also very active. The Dive Team was dispatched to recover a float plane that crashed into Lake Pleasant, resulting in a minor injury to the pilot. The Marine Division spent 48 patrol hours keeping our waterways safe. Deputies made contact with 183 vessels and gave out 28 warnings and zero citations. Majority of the contacts were safety checks to ensure every vessel had enough personal floatation devices for their passengers and to educate operators about the laws of the waterways. Lapeer County Deputies were dispatched to over 200 calls for service which resulted in the arrests of 13 individuals. The arrests include offense for OWI's, Probation Violations, Domestic Violence, Drugs and Disorderly Persons. Deputies also conducted 149 traffic stops and handled 20 vehicle crashes. Thankfully, there were no fatalities on our roadways during this busy holiday weekend.
