All Huron County Millage Requests Pass Except Two

During Tuesday's election in Huron County, voters not only approved all of the county millage proposals, but also all of the township millage except for two.

According to the preliminary election results, Lake Township's ballot request for .9561 mill levy with an increase of .0439 mills to bring the levy back to its pre Headlee rollback amount of 1 mill failed in a vote of 205 no to 150 yes votes.

The township's renewal request for the millage for roads and spongy moth (Gypsy moth) suppression also failed.

The ballot issue to renew the current millage of 1.4395 mills and increase to its pre Headlee rollback of 1.5 mills failed with 179 no votes to 178 yes votes.

All of the other requests for millages during Tuesday's election were approved.

Caseville Township's proposal to renew .3982 of a mill for five years to fight insects was approved with 563 yes votes to 133 no votes so it will generate about $109,695 the first year.

The millage renewal for roads passed with 498 yes votes to 192 no votes.

The township's request to renew the library millage passed with 429 yes votes to 255 no votes

Colfax Township's request to renew 1 mill for roads for four years will generate about $136,640 the first year passed with 310 yes votes to 110 no votes

The request to renew 1.75 mills for four years for fire protection that will generate about $239,121 passed with 344 yes votes to 77 no votes.

The Caseville Public School's request to renew 18 mills for eight years for district operations was approved with 578 yes votes to 277 no votes.

The Sigel Township School District No. 3 renewal of the foundation 18 millage to fund operations for 10 years to fund district operations passed.

That district, which covers the townships of Sigel, Bloomfield, Verona and Lincoln, is known as the Adams School.

Dwight Township's request to renew a road millage passed with 104 yes votes to 47 no votes.

Fairhaven Township's renewal request for police protection passed with 169 yes votes to 69 no votes.

The township's renewal request for fire protection passed with 192 yes votes to 46 no votes, and the township's request for mosquito abatement passed with 165 yes votes to 74 no votes.

Hume Township's road renewal passed with 182 yes votes to 74 no votes.

The request to renew the fire service millage passed with 214 yes votes to 45 no votes.

Meade Township's request to renew road millage passed with 117 yes votes to 45 no votes.

Rubicon Township's request to renew a road millage passed with 136 yes votes to 56 no votes.

Sebewaing Township's request for an additional millage for the library passed with 383 yes votes to 248 no votes.

Election results are unofficial until they are verified by the county's board of canvassers.
