Dr. Edward Canfield, former State Representative and now part of the Pace Wellness Center proposed for Bad Axe, next to the Huron County Senior Center thanked the Huron County Board of Commissioners for their find a way to fund the construction of the center. The Region 7 Area Agency on Aging would run it, but the building and property would remain with the county. The center would cover all medical costs for seniors on Medicare and Medicaid that are enrolled and eligible for the program. The paperwork formalizing an agreement is still pending. The board also heard from Finance Chair Ron Wruble who noted that the 2019 accruals should be done by the end of the month to close the books on that fiscal year. Vice Chairman of the board, John Bodis who conducted the meeting noted that he has been hearing from people concerned about Thumb Industries recycling program, which may shut down due to lack of funding. The program is not a county function or agency, but rather a program from that independent service agency so the counties options are limited.
