Clark Ramsey of Scheurer Hospital talked with the Huron County Board of Commissioners on concerns that have arisen about a turbine base that is being excavated over 3100 feet from the hospital helipad. Ramsey said the helicopter pilots have concerns about approaching the facility if the wind is in certain directions because of the turbulence the turbine can create. There were also visibility concerns has weather can roll off Saginaw Bay quickly reducing visibility. Jeff Smith of the Building and Zoning office said the projects' plans have been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and through the Michigan Tall Structures statute. Their determination was there was no hazard. While it would have been better to address this in the planning phase, Ramsey said the issue just arose yesterday. The board told Ramsey the hospital should immediately file a complaint with the building and zoning office raising the issue with the developer. At this point its just the excavation work, but concern was if they waited until the next Planning Commission meeting they may already be pouring concrete. At the end of the meeting Chairman Sami Khoury asked fellow board members if they could draft a nice letter to the developer on the matter about the concerns, and have corporate counsel Steve Allen review it. Allen was concerned about the board getting too heavily involved as the project had already been approved through the ordinance.
