Some former state champions received some recognition from their glory days.
Kingston School District's 1983 Women's State Championship Cross Country team was honored with the unfurling of their new banner that recognized their accomplishment from 37 years ago.
"We had a banner for them before. When we gutted the gym and did the full remodel, it was an old scraggly felt banner," explained Superintendent Matt Drake. "Our AD (athletic director) Carl Nicol auctioned off all of the old felt banners to the individual with the highest bid."
The proceeds from the sale of the old banners was used to purchase the new banners and the record boards currently on display in the gym.
"We just thought we would re-recognize them as we replaced the banner," Drake explained.
"It was a nice night for them some of whom came from long distances to be here."
Those who were honored include: Marcia Britton, Karen Laycock, Michelle Landram, Monica Tait, Melissa Banowski and Jeanette Randall Landram.
