THE HURON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HANDLED THEIR OPEN AGENDA SWIFTLY THURSDAY AFTERNOON.     THE BOARD APPROVED NEW WORDING TO A CONTRACT THAT HOLDS THEM PART OF THE GREATER THUMB TECHNOLOGY CONSORTIUM WHICH WILL CONNECT HURON COUNTY'S I-S-D WITH A FIBER OPTIC CONNECTION BETWEEN SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN TUSCOLA, SANILAC, LAPEER, GENESEE, AND ST. CLAIR COUNTIES.     THEY HEARD FROM DEVIN IRION AND BRIAN BROWN, GRADUATING SENIORS FROM LAKER HIGH SCHOOL WHO PARTICIPATED IN DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES THIS SCHOOL YEAR.      THE TWO PRAISED THE PROGRAM AS A GOOD WAY TO PREPARE FOR COLLEGE CLASSES, HOWEVER THEY BOTH PREFERRED THE CLASSES WITH A TEACHER IN THE ROOM AS COMPARED TO THE CLASS THEY BOTH TOOK ONLINE ONCE PER WEEK.     NEXT YEAR THE HURON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE RUNNING DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES THROUGH MID-MICHIGAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE RATHER THAN DELTA COLLEGE.     MID-MICHIGAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOCUSES MUCH MORE ON CLASSROOM STYLE LEARNING AND STRAYS FROM ONLINE CLASSES.
DURING DIRECTOR REPORTS DIRECTOR OF GENERAL EDUCATION KAREN CURRIE DISCUSSED A RECENT PROJECT GIVEN TO AREA MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLERS TO NOT ONLY CREATE A PATCH TO BE WORN BY ASTRONAUTS TO THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION BUT TO COME UP WITH EXPERIMENTS TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE ASTRONAUTS IN MICROGRAVITY.   THE THREE PROJECTS CHOSEN TO BE TESTED IN SPACE WERE HOW WILL SUGAR BEETS GROW, DOES LIQUID CHANGE IN VOLUME, AND HOW IS CALCIUM ABSORPTION IN BONES EFFECTED BY MICROGRAVITY.
