A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD MONDAY NIGHT AT THE CARO CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON THE APPLICATION BY R&S TOOL FOR AN INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE. THIS WOULD MEAN THAT THE COMPANY WOULD BE ABLE TO PURCHASE NEW EQUIPMENT AND RETAIN 13 JOBS AS WELL AS ADD 2 NEW POSITIONS. THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE CERTIFICATE.
CARO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS ALSO UNAMIMOUSLY ADOPTED THE 80/20 PLAN FOR EMPLOYEE HEALTHCARE COVERAGE. PURSUENT TO PUBLIC ACT 152, THE CITY MUST VOTE ANNUALLY ON THE TOTAL COST SHARING PLAN UNDER THE CITY’S ECONOMIC VITALITY INCENTIVE PROGRAM (E.V.I.P.). FULL TIME MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES WILL BE MAKING A TRANSITION FROM TRADITIONAL BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD TO C.O.P.S TRUST, A P.P.O. BASED PLAN, WITH HEADQUARTERS IN TROY, MI. THE CITY BELIEVES THAT THERE WILL BE AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF COVERAGE TO COST WITH A GENERAL SAVINGS TO THE EMPLOYEES.
CITIZENS MAY NOTICE ORANGE CONES ON SHERMAN STREET. THIS IS DUE TO THE REGRADING OF THE STREET AND RAISING OF SEWER LIDS AND CAPS TO MEET THE EXTRA HEIGHT FOR RESURFACING. THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN NEXT WEEK AND IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF MAY. FUTURE CONSTRUCTION BEING PROPOSED IS A PLAN FOR COLUMBIA STREET. CONSTRUCTION WOULD NOT BEGIN ON THAT PROJECT UNTIL 2014.
AFTER A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR LAWN MOWING SERVICES ONLY GARNERED ONE BID, IT WAS DECIDED THAT CHRISE ESCKELSON LANDSCAPING AND LAWN CARE WILL BE CONTRACTED TO WORK WITH THE CITY ON LAWN MOWING AND NOXIOUS WEED REMOVAL. HE MEETS ALL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND HAS WORKED WITH THE CITY IN THE PAST. HE WILL HAVE AN EIGHT HOUR TIME LIMIT PER DAY THAT THE CITY REQUESTS HIS SERVICES AND WILL CHARGE A RATE OF $20 PER HOUR. FOR WEED REMOVAL THE RATES WILL BE $35 FOR AN 8,000 SQUARE FEET LOT WITH ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR LARGER LOTS.
