BAD AXE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT

THE BAD AXE CITY COUNCIL MADE A FEW APPROVALS AND DISCUSSED THE ROAD WORK IN DOWNTOWN BAD AXE AT THEIR MONDAY NIGHT REGULAR MEETING.   THE COUNCIL APPROVED TO PAY FOR THEIR USAGE OF THE COLFAX BISSET DRAIN IN AN AT LARGE ASSESSMENT.     BAD AXE CITY MANAGER DALE VanDEVUSSE ESTIMATES THE COST TO THE CITY WILL BE ROUGHLY $50,000, BUT BIDS ARE STILL BEING SOUGHT.    VanDEVUSSE EXPLAINED THE MONEY IS ALREADY IN THE BUDGET BECAUSE THE WORK WAS MEANT TO BE DONE LAST FALL, HOWEVER, DUE TO EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES IT WAS PREVIOUSLY UNABLE TO GET DONE.     THE COUNCIL APPROVED A CITY WIDE GARAGE SALE BEGINNING JUNE 6th AND ENDING THE 9th.     RESIDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO HOLD GARAGE SALES THOSE DAYS WITHOUT IT COUNTING AGAINST THE TWO PER YEAR LIMIT THE CITY HAS IMPOSED.     THE BAD AXE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS TO UPGRADE THEIR REPORT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM THROUGH INTER-ACT PUBLIC SAFETY SYSTEMS AT A COST JUST UNDER $4,000.    MANAGER VanDEVUSSE SPOKE ABOUT THE ROAD WORK IN TOWN, STATING THOUGH THERE WERE SETBACKS DUE TO WEATHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT HE THINKS THE WORKERS WILL BE ABLE TO CATCH UP NOW THAT THE WEATHER HAS GOTTEN BETTER.
IN OTHER ACTION THE BOARD HEARD FROM HURON COUNTY COMMISSIONER JOHN BODIS CONCERNING THE UPCOMING MEMORIAL DAY PARADE WHICH MAYOR JIM HICKS HAS HEADED UP BY HOLDING WEEKLY MEETINGS TO DISCUSS AND ORGANIZE FLOATS, BANDS, AND MONEY.     BODIS SAYS INVITATIONS HAVE BEEN SENT TO BOTH REPRESENTATIVE TERRY BROWN AND SENATOR MIKE GREEN.    HE SAYS SO FAR BROWN HAS CONFIRMED HE WILL BE ATTENDING.    BODIS ALSO SAYS HE IS LOOKING TO MAKE A RESOLUTION ALLOW USE OF THE COURTHOUSE LAWN BETWEEN 8:00 A.M. AND 1:00 P.M. ON THE DAY OF THE PARADE, WHICH IS SATURDAY, MAY 25TH.
