Originally military personnel were scheduled to appear at the Huron County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday concerning the jet overflights of the Thumb. They however canceled last week. There were 9 local residents who did talk to the Commissioners on the issue. Most were against the overflights because of the high noise of the low altitude maneuvers, and the frequency of the flights. The one who felt it was important for the military to have the training opportunity, also said some questions should be asked. The military has proposed lowering the ceiling of the flights over the Thumb and would use faster and noiser jets for training purposes.   Building and Zoning Director Jeff Smith told the board they had used the county's sound meauring equipment and read the sound of the fire siren in Bad Axe that is activated several times a day. They had a reading next to the county building of 115.9 decibels. The jets would have higher noise levels when they pass over. It was to give the board a sense of how noisy the jets will be. Most spoke about the quality of life in the area being affected and how it will affect children.
