A former Michigan State Police trooper was sentenced Monday on 2 felony and 2 misdemeanor charges for an assault on his partner while on duty earlier this year at the Bad Axe State Police Post. 26 year old Adam Stephen Mullin received a year in jail on several of the charges of Obstructing Justice, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer causing injury, Aggravated Domestic Assault charge and Assault and Battery. He received 93 days on one of the misdemeanor counts. He was given credit for 149 days in jail he has served since his bond was revoked this past Summer. He was found guilty of the charges by a jury in October after a 3 day trial. In a prepared statement, Mullin apologized for the damage and pain to the victim, and to the Michigan State Police, saying "I'm sorry from the deepest part of my being". He described himself as broken and humbled, losing everything by saying his dream was to become a State Police trooper.   In a victim's statement his female former partner said its not just the physical injuries, but the mental consequences, telling the court she has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and nightmares of Mullin concerning her safety and that of her family. She said Mullin was "faking remorse" and is already concerned about the day he is released from custody. The two were having a relationship while Mullin was married to another woman. In February at the post in Bad Axe they had a heated argument, with Mullin throwing his partner about 8 feet causing severe injuries. Judge Gerald Prill said that of significance was this happened while they were on duty, adding there was nothing more toxic than this relationship. On several occasions Prill told Mullin that as a State Trooper you are held to a higher standard by the community. A restitution hearing was scheduled for early next year for the costs to the victim.
