The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frankentrost will host its 23rd live nativity next weekend.

The Living Nativity will be 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8. It takes about 30 minutes to do the walk on a paved pathway to see the presentation.

Because this is an outdoor event, viewers should dress accordingly for the weather.

The presentation of the Holy Family's journey to Bethlehem begins inside the church with the singing of Christmas hymns and carols and then the outside walk begins.

So everyone can enjoy the event, an interpreter will be provided for hearing-impaired groups on Saturday upon request. To have that option, call the church office 989-754-0929.

The walk will be led by a guide as they travel with the Holy Family to the ancient town of Bethlehem to pay taxes and be counted in the Roman census. Participants will hear the shepherds talk about the angels' proclamation and listen to the prophet talk of signs and wonders.

The Bethlehem scene will be alive with activity, which will include live animals - even camels.

The experience will include the experience of being turned away at the inn because there is no room and having to avoid the anger of Roman soldiers and tax collectors. The experience will culminate in seeing the peaceful baby Jesus asleep in the manger.

At the conclusion of the walk, viewers will be invited inside the school for light refreshments and good fellowship.

The living Nativity started as part of the celebration of the congregation's 150th anniversary in 1997.

Each year the event draws thousands of people to watch a cast of about 300 people and volunteers host the program.

The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School of Frankentrost is located at the corner of M-46 and Mueller Road, in Blumfield Township.

For more information, call the church office at 989-754-0929, or visit www.frankentrost.org or their Living Nativity Frankentrost Facebook page.

The event is supplemented with Thrivent funds.
