Sparring over details continued again at this month's meeting of the Lapeer City Commission.
There was a lengthy discussion on the evaluation process of city Manager Mike Womack's job performance.
He has worked for the city since May 2023.
It is Womack's opinion his evaluation should be done about the time of his employment anniversary and the standard evaluation form that has been used should continue instead of developing a new one on the fly.
Mayor Jeramy Hing is pushing to use a different evaluation format rather than the one that has been used.
It is Womack's impression and some of the commissioners that Hing is posturing to remove Womack as city manager, which Hing denies.
After a protracted discussion on when the evaluation would be done, it was eventually decided to conduct Womack's job performance during a special meeting at 4 p.m., on Monday, July 20, instead of at 8 a.m. on July 6 as had been suggested.
A later time was agreed on when Womack pointed out an early meeting would be difficult for the public to attend.
Womack contends the public has a right to know about his performance as manager.
Hing countered with a reminder that a city manager works at the pleasure of the commission.
