Ann Hepfer, Health Officer for the Tuscola and Huron County Health Departments released updated COVID-19 numbers for the area on Sunday evening. Tuscola County reported 26 new COVID-19 cases last week and a weekly averaged positivity rate of 5.5%. Huron County reported 13 cases and a 6.5% test positivity weekly rate. The Saginaw Region saw a weekly average positive rate of 3.3%. "Please continue to wear your masks even after you are completely vaccinated, avoid groups or gatherings, and practice social distancing, continue to use the hand sanitizers and wash your hands frequently, especially before eating and after removing and touching your masks" said Hepfer. You can find instructions for caring for your masks at CDC.gov, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services website. Huron and Tuscola County Health Departments continue to vaccinate eligible individuals based on vaccine supply. This week, they will continue to focus on the 65 and up age groups and the addition of vaccinating Child Caring Centers, and protective services workers. They are not able to move ahead to another phase at this time. It can take up to 6-8 weeks for eligible individuals to be contacted. Regardless of the current phase of eligibility, anyone desiring to be vaccinated please register if you are a Huron County resident at http://hchd.us or a Tuscola County resident at http://www.tchd.us. The pre-registration link is now available for you to register for Covid-19 vaccine. This will be used for health department staff to contact you when there are vaccine doses available. One person may enter contact information for multiple people. We encourage anyone to help those who do not have internet access. When they receive vaccines, the Health Department will contact you by email, text or phone call. You will then have times to choose from in the schedule for a specific date. This week the free papers are advertising the phone bank and telephone numbers of the agencies that are working together to assist those who do not have internet access to get registered on the waitlist. It does not matter if you register by phone or at the online links listed above, everyone goes on the waiting list. The waiting list is then sorted to identify those eligible for vaccination according to the phase they are vavvinating in.
