Covid-19 variant found in an elderly St. Clair County resident

The Covid-19 variant B.1.1.7 has been detected in St. Clair County. Health Department officials in St. Clair County earlier this week released a statement that the individual in question has been in isolation and close contacts have been quarantined since the diagnosis. The person who tested for the variant is in their 70's and had no current travel history, The symptoms are currently mild and hospitalization was not needed. Dr. Annette Mercatante, Medical Health Officer for The St. Clair County Health Department said that the variant is more contagious, and could potentially infect more people with less exposure. There was also a case of the varient detected recently in Genesse County. That individual had no symptoms when the testing was conducted.
