MSU extension District 10 Director Jerry Johnson talks to HC Commissioners on the programs they provide

District 10 Director Jerry Johnson (right) of the Michigan State University Extension talked with the Huron County Board of Commissioners Tuesday morning at its Meeting of the Whole on the programs and services they provide in the county. Johnson had about a 30 minute Power Point Presentation, and went through the various programs offered, beyond what most people think of with the extension service. He thanked the board for its financial support and talked about how they partner to meet the needs of the community. They offer programs in four major areas, Health and Nutrition. Children and Youth, Agriculture and Agribusiness and Community Food and Environment. He highlighted community programs like the First Impression Tourism program or "Fit" in which several Thumb Communities have already participated along with the Sea Grant Program for water and shoreline issues. At the regular meeting, the board was told the roofing work as begun at the Huron Expo and Arena Building at the fairgrounds, and they will seek candidates to fill 1 1/2 year terms on the Planning Commission and HEalth Board, with those interested needing to contact the county by Friday, November first.
