Since the pandemic, prices on everything have gone up, and fire equipment is no exception. Because of that the Arbela Township Board of Trustees decided to move forward to do a purchase. The board voted to go out for specs for a new rescue truck to five or six different companies. The cost for the truck is going up and probably won't be delivered for 14 to 16 months once they place the order, Clerk Mary Warren explained. Also, it was approved to apply for a grant to help offset the cost of some new firefighter gear. In other matters, Supervisor Jody Hunt reported the outside beams are unstable on the bridge on Belsay Road north of Birch Run Road over the creek. To address that, guard rails could be put up to narrow the road down to one lane over the creek or another alternative would be to keep the road closed until 2024 or 2025 to when it could be repaired. The matter will continue to be discussed. Hunt also noted all the roadsides have been mowed once and a second mowing will be done soon, and gravel roads have been graded and chloride spread. The Arbela Township Zoning Ordinance was amended to rezone property from Agriculture to Rural Residential on property owned by Lonnie Kester. Also, the board approved hiring Smith, Bovill, P.C. as the township's attorneys.
