THE CITY OF CASEVILLE DECIDED TO BEGIN EFFORTS THAT WILL PUT A BALLOT PROPOSAL BEFORE CITY VOTERS NEXT YEAR.   THE CITY WILL BE SEEKING UP TO 2 MILLS FOR FIVE YEARS FOR WORK ON THE CITY SIDEWALKS AND ROADS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN ADDRESSED FOR MANY YEARS. THE CITY HAS NOT YET DECIDED AT WHICH ELECTION DATE IN 2013 THEY WILL HAVE THE VOTE. OFFICIALS HAD CONSIDERED A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT FOR THE WORK, BUT DECIDED A VOTE WAS THE BETTER WAY TO GO.
THE CITY COUNCIL DECIDED TO TABLE ACTION ON THE CITY MASTER PLAN, WHICH IS UPDATED EVERY FEW YEARS. THE PLANNING COMMISSION HAD SOME CHANGES THE COUNCIL WANTED TO EXPLORE.   THE CITY HAD INPUT FROM MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY ON THINGS LIKE ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS THAT COULD GO IN TO THE PLAN THAT IS DESIGNED TO MAP OUT GROWTH AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE CITY. THE COUNCIL ALSO DISCUSSED THE LOW WATER LEVELS IN THE PIGEON RIVER, AS THE POSSIBILITY OF FEDERAL HELP IN DREDGING HAS ALL BUT DRIED UP. THE FINANCE COMMITTEE OF THE CITY COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS THE PROBLEM WITH THE HARBOR COMMISSION, HOME OWNERS AND MARINAS TO TRY TO SEEK A SOLUTION. THEY ALSO APPROVED THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROGRAM FOR SATURDAY, DECEMBER FIRST CALLED, "CHRISTMAS IN CASEVILLE".   IT WILL FEATURE LUNCH WITH SANTA, A MOVIE AT THE THEATER, NOEL NIGHT CAROLING, TREE LIGHTING, BON FIRE AND OTHER EVENTS.
