A domestic situation in Vassar Township during a Fourth of July celebration ended in a shooting.
Trevor James Payne, 21, of Bay City, was taken into custody for the shooting by Tuscola County deputies, and he is charged with several felonies in connection with the incident.
Deputes responded about 11:32 p.m., to a residence on Brown Road for a domestic assault call of a man assaulting his wife while family and friends were at the residence.
"A family friend is alleged to have retrieved a shotgun pistol 20-gauge from his vehicle and fired one shot at the husband who was assaulting his wife," according to the police report which noted the husband was "shot in the head."
The wounded man was taken to a hospital in Saginaw by MMR.
Payne was taken into custody at the scene for the shooting by the deputies.
Because Payne shot the man to allegedly stop the assault on the women, he was charged with eight felony counts Monday.
According to Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark Reene, the counts include:
One count of assault with intent to murder - a felony, that carries a life sentence or any number of years if found guilty.
One count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder - a felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years or $5,000 fine.
One count of weapons - dangerous weapon - carrying with unlawful intent, which is a felony with a maximum sentence of five years or a $2,500 fine.
One count of assault with a dangerous weapon - felonious assault, which is a felony with a four-year sentence or $2,000 fine.
Four counts of weapons - felony firearm, which is a felony with a two year sentence.
According to Undersheriff Robert Baxter, bond was set at $100,000 of 10 percent, and Payne posted bond Monday.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for July 17.
