The Huron County Commissioners at Tuesday's regular Zoom meeting received an update on several issues from State Representative Phil Green. Green talked about the status of the DNR efforts to impose a number of restrictions on commercial fishermen. He talked about how it came about, legislative action the House took and went to the Senate, and how with the new legislature being sworn in Wednesday there has been a letter sent to the DNR on seeking to return to the status quo while the litigation and legislative activity continues on the matter. Green also talked about the legislature's efforts to get restaurants and bars open again. He said he believed the legislature is looking for a meeting with the Governor and staff on the issue and will be hesitant to appropriate future dollars in the matter until they all come to the table on the issue. He also spoke about the State Capital Commissions' ban on open carry of weapons, just enacted. His concern is that it's a rule and not legislation. So there is the rule, with no approved penalties for it in the law.
