ELKTON-PIGEON-BAY PORT LAKER ELEMENTARY RECENTLY HOSTED A FAMILY SCIENCE/ENGINEERING NIGHT, DURING WHICH PARENTS AND STUDENTS FROM ALL GRADE LEVELS CAME OUT TO ENJOY A WIDE VARIETY OF HANDS-ON SCIENCE/ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES. MANY WERE SELF-GUIDED, WHILE OTHERS WERE LED BY LAKER HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, LAKER STAFF MEMBERS AND/OR COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THE HURON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT ALSO ASSISTED WITH THE EVENT. A FREE DINNER ("ENGINEER YOUR OWN SANDWICH") ALSO WAS PROVIDED. THE EVENT WAS SO POPULAR, IT LASTED EVEN LONGER THAN ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED - EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME LEARNING, DISCOVERING, CREATING AND ENJOYING TIME TOGETHER.

ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR ACTIVITIES WAS THE HAMSTER BALL. EACH PARTICIPANT PUT ON A HELMET AND CLIMBED INTO A LARGE PLASTIC, INFLATABLE BALL. THEN, IT WAS TIME TO FIND OUT WHAT IT'S LIKE (SOMEWHAT) TO BE A HAMSTER!
