SOME OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDE READING IN THE GYM (WITH FLASHLIGHTS, SLEEPING BAGS/BLANKETS/ETC.), BUDDY READ (ONE CLASS PAIRING UP WITH ANOTHER TO READ), CAMP SURPRISE AND MORE.

LAKER ELEMENTARY STAFF SINGING: AT THE "OPENING CEREMONIES" FOR MARCH IS READING MONTH AT LAKER ELEMENTARY, STAFF MEMBERS GATHERED TO SING SOME FUN SONGS AS NURSE PAT YODER PLAYED THE GUITAR. STUDENTS JOINED IN ON THE SINGING FUN, TOO. THE THEME IS "CAMP OUT WITH A GOOD BOOK" AND THE WHOLE SCHOOL IS DECORATED LIKE A CAMPGROUND.

AS PART OF THE CAMPING THEME, LAKER ELEMENTARY INVITED THE LEELENAU OUTDOOR CENTER (LOC) TO VISIT AND DO SOME FUN TEAM-BUILDING, NATURE-APPRECIATION ACTIVITIES WITH STUDENTS. THE LOC STAFF TAUGHT STUDENTS ABOUT TRACKING FOR ANIMALS IN SNOW AND STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO DO SOME TRACKING OUTSIDE. HERE, FIFTH GRADERS PRETEND THEY ARE ANIMALS, MAKING TRACKS IN THE SNOW.
